Gents Set To Open SCAC Play At McMurry

The Centenary men's soccer team will face the McMurry University War Hawks in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Friday night in a match set for 7 PM inside Wilford Moore Stadium.

The Gents (2-3-2) aim to rebound from a 5-0 loss to the East Texas Baptist University Tigers in a non-conference contest last Saturday night in Marshall, Texas and are 0-3-1 on the road this season. The War Hawks (2-4-1) are 2-1 at home this season and lost 3-1 at University of Mary Hardin-Baylor last Saturday. Centenary leads the all-time series 2-0 and recorded a 2-1 victory last season in Shreveport.

Senior GK Sam Brocato (Leesville, La.) enters the weekend ranked as the league leader in shutouts (3), is third in the conference in saves (35), and seventh in Goals against average (GAA) at 2.00. Brocato is tied for 54^th nationally in saves and tied for 35^th in shutouts.

Centenary boasts the top offense in the conference as the Maroon and White ranks first in goals, points, shots, and corner kicks, and ranks second in assists. The Gents have scored 15 goals and average 2.14/game

Senior F Connor Buche (College Station, Texas), sophomore D Dylan Clark (Allen, Texas), and junior F Carter Webb (Flower Mound, Texas) are all tied for the team lead in goals with two each and rank in a tie for 10^th in the conference. Nine players have scored one goal each - junior D Aidan Miller (Keller, Texas), junior F Fernando Santos (Bridgeport, Texas), junior D Aaron Gonzales (Atascocita, Texas), freshman MF Joseph LeBoeuf (DeRidder, La.), junior Marco Zavala (Choluteca, Honduras), freshman MF Matthew Hebert (Lafayette, La.), sophomore F Jesse Lang (Austin, Texas), junior MF Jacob Ramsey (Baton Rouge, La.), and senior MF Brandon Guevara (Henderson, Texas).

Ramsey is the team leader in assists (3) and is tied for second in the conference and six Gents have one each – Guevara, Lang, freshman MF Marco Peterson (Bedford, Texas), freshman D Aaron Thornley (Henderson, Texas), freshman D/MF Bevan Flanagan (Murphy, Texas), and freshman D Benjamin Ascuncion-Crabb (Belton, Texas). Ramsey leads the team in points with five and three are tied for second in points with four – Buche, Clark, and Webb.

The Gents will face the Schreiner University Mountaineers on Sunday at 2 PM in Kerrville, Texas.
