ANDERSON, S.C. - Brevard sits in seventh place after the first 18 holes of play at the season-opening Anderson University Invitational at Cobb's Glen Country Club.
The Tornados shot a first-round 377 in difficult conditions in Anderson. Freshman Taylor Scovel shot a 92 in her first round of collegiate competition, leading fellow freshman Courtney Sharp and sophomore Kelsie Rhyne by one stroke. Freshman Maddie Lutz filled out the Tornado contingent, six strokes behind Sharp and Rhyne in 41st place.
Fellow South Atlantic Conference member Lincoln Memorial leads after 18 holes with a first-round score of 321, 33 strokes over par. Tournament hosts Anderson sit eight strokes back in second place, with Lenoir-Rhyne three strokes further back in third. Brevard is in seventh after 18 holes.
The teams will play 18 holes in Tuesday's final round.
