GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The Brevard women's golf team kicked off the Tusculum Fall Classic with its best round in recent memory, shooting a first-round 340 to enter Tuesday's final round in seventh place.
The Tornados finished 12 strokes better than their previous low score in 2015, which came during the first round of the Etowah Intercollegiate last week. The Tornados are within nine strokes of fifth place and three strokes behind sixth-place Mars Hill. Lenoir-Rhyne sits atop the leaderboard with a first-round 304, with host Tusculum two strokes back in second.
Brevard was paced by Taylor Scovel, who finished in a tie for 19th with an 81 on the par-72 course at Link Hills Country Club. Courtney Sharp and Kelsie Rhyne were two and three strokes back, respectively, while Maddie Lutz rounded out the Brevard contingent with a 92. Lenoir-Rhyne's Abbey Hartsell and Tusculum individual Blythe Scrivner are tied for first after 18 holes with a one-over 73.
The Tornados will complete play with 18 holes on Tuesday.
