SHREVEPORT, La. – Head Coach David Foley has stepped down as the Ladies Basketball Coach. Foley will leave Shreveport to become the women's basketball coach at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota.
"We are sorry to see Coach Foley leave Centenary, but wish him nothing but the best at Saint Mary's," said Centenary Director of Athletics and Recreation. Dr. Bob Bunnell, "In his two years with the Ladies, he worked tirelessly to develop our existing squad, and to recruit highly-qualified student-athletes to add to the program. He will leave behind a legacy of hard work, compassionate leadership, and great support for his colleagues. He will be missed, but we will move forward with a national search to identify the next leader of the program."
In his two seasons at the helm of the Ladies basketball program, Foley has taken the program to new heights. In the 2017-18 season, Foley coached one of the youngest teams in the nation and qualified for the SCAC Tournament for the first time in program history (previous appearances were automatic qualification).
"I want to thank Dr. Holoman, Dr. Bunnell, and the Centenary campus community for supporting our program over the last two years," said Foley. "I am very proud of the work we put in to elevate the quality and level of the program. I feel confident that the future is very bright for Centenary Ladies Basketball!"
Three different players have been named All-Conference by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference during Foley's tenure. Rising senior Jasmine Morris grabbed Third Team All-Conference accolades in both 2016-17 and 2017-18 while classmate Savanah Doty was named Honorable Mention All-Conference both seasons. This past year, rising sophomore and Shreveport native Bre Frierson earned Honorable Mention All-Conference accolades.
"I also want to thank all of the young women in the program," added Foley. "You believed in me and our vision. You made me better every day. Whoever the new coach will be is inheriting a team of hardworking, driven student-athletes ready to compete in the SCAC. The best is yet to come. I will miss you all greatly."
A search for a head coach will begin immediately.
