Ladies and Gents Both Finish Third at Hendrix Invite, Claim a Trio of Event Wins

CONWAY, Ark. – Both the Ladies and Gents finished third of seven teams, while freshmen Kaylin Swoboda and Miguel Vasquez claimed event wins, at the third annual Hendrix Invitational this weekend, November 30-December 1.

The Ladies finished third with 508 points. Host Hendrix won the invite, while Barton Community College took runner-up honors. The Ladies finished ahead of three other teams including fellow Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference affiliate member, the University of the Ozarks.

The Gents also took third with 494.5 points, with Barton Community College winning and the Warriors second.

Swoboda led a trio of Ladies that all finished in the top-4 of the 200 IM. Swoboda touched the wall in 2:19.31 for the event win, while freshman Brianna Serret took third with a time of 2:21.70. Junior Jessi Jordan touched the wall in 2:23.30 to claim fourth.

For the Gents, Vasquez claimed a pair of firsts and a second. He won the 100 backstroke with a time of 52-flat, the fourth fastest time in school history. He also won the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.57 and took second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.54. His 50 backstroke split of 23.69 in the 200 medley relay is the second fastest time in the event in Gents history. He teamed up with freshmen Mitchell Lulich and Tripp Montgomery with senior Blake Smith to finish third with a time of 1:39.99.

Rounding out top finishes for the Gents, junior Eddie Dyess took second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:01.30.

For the Ladies, Swoboda earned runner-up honors in both the 100 (1:12.11) and 200 (2:38.34) breaststrokes. Serret claimed a runner-up finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.62, while freshman Lindsay Strohm touched the wall in 2:04.98 for runner-up honors in the 200 freestyle.

Jordan and freshman Margot Frost finished second and third in the 400 IM with times of 5:08.08 and 5:25.15, respectively.

The Ladies and Gents return to the pool on January 5 for the Austin College Invite. First event is scheduled for 1 p.m.
