SHREVEPORT, La. – On the heels of a very busy weekend for Centenary Athletics, Gents Baseball and Ladies Softball begin play in the Shreveport-Bossier community this weekend, February 9-10.
However, the Diamond Gents begin their weekend Friday, February 8, with a quick trip west on I-20 to take on East Texas Baptist. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m., which is an hour earlier than originally scheduled.
On Saturday, February 9, the Diamond Gents host the Tigers at Shehee Stadium for a pair of games beginning at 1 p.m. While there will be live stats, there will not be video available.
Meanwhile, Ladies Softball will play their "home" opener on Sunday. The doubleheader against Millsaps still begins at noon; however, the game will be played at Bossier Parish Community College because of construction to the Centenary Softball Fields.

The Diamond Gents, coming off two-straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Regular Season titles (and four in six years) were picked third in the preseason conference poll. Texas Lutheran and Trinity tied for the top spot. In its first game of the season, Centenary downed Pelican State-rival Louisiana College on Monday, February 4.

The Ladies, coming off two third-place finishes in the SCAC Tournament in the last three years, were picked to finish fifth in the SCAC preseason poll. The Ladies lost their season opener to East Texas Baptist on Monday.
Centenary will host the 2019 SCAC Softball Tournament April 26-28. Texas Lutheran was the unanimous pick to win the SCAC title.
Ladies Softball will take on Texas A&M Texarkana for a doubleheader in Texarkana, Texas, next Saturday, February 16 beginning at 1 p.m. The Diamond Gents travel to Millsaps for a Tuesday game at 4 p.m. before hosting La Verne for a doubleheader next Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. Centenary and La Verne finish the series Sunday morning, February 17, at 10 a.m.
