SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies cruised to their fourth-straight home win against the Crusaders to finish their five game home stand to begin 2018 undefeated as Centenary (5-0, 3-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) defeated Dallas (1-3-1, 0-2 SCAC) 4-1 at CE Byrd High School Tuesday night, September 11.
In the four game home winning streak against the Crusaders, Centenary has outscored Dallas 13-1.
"Tonight was a good wwin to finish the home stand on a solid note," said head coach Greg Cathell. "It was great that all three forwards scored tonight as they have done a good job all season setting up each other with quality looks."
While Centenary only put six shots on target the whole game, the Ladies made the most of their opportunities. After three shots by Dallas in the game's opening minutes, Centenary struck in the 13th minute. Junior Olivia Jackson booted a ball from the defensive side of the field to classmate Kyra Montes. Montes passed to the middle of the box to sophomore Pamela Fonseca, who beat the keeper 1v1 for her third goal of the season.
Jackson's long serves would paid off again in the 28th minute. From near the right sideline, Jackson took a free kick near post. Freshman Kat Martinez used a touch across the goal to Montes for her seventh goal of the season.
Martinez got in the act in the 51st minute for her first collegiate goal. After a touch from freshman Amy Moreno, Fonseca lofted the ball in front of the goal. Martinez scored to put the Ladies up a trio of goals.
At that point of the game, Centenary had found the back of the net on all three shots on goal.
After Dallas scored, Jackson took a free kick on her own for the goal. In the 89th minute, she put a free kick from the left of the box into the far post for her second goal of the season.
"I'm really pleased with Olivia's night on the pitch as well," added Cathell. "She's been quite impactful for us as we've gone further into the season. I can really see the confidence growing in her play."
With Jackson's two assists and Montes helper, both teammates are tied for the SCAC lead in assists (four).
Dallas' Le Lien scored in the 86th minute for the lone visitor score of the contest.
The Ladies return to action for their first road contest of the season Friday, September 14, at Schreiner. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
