The Gents (4-11) led 56-17 at halftime over the Yellow Jackets (11-8) as they notched their first home win of the season and evened the season series after losing 103-82 in Brownwood, Texas on Dec. 12. Centenary's win on Tuesday was its largest of the season and largest since a 97-64 home win over the University of Dallas on Jan. 20, 2024, exactly two years ago.
Broussard finished with a season-high 34 points and was 10-15 from beyond the arc. He was 12-18 from the floor in 39 minutes and his 12 made field goals were also a season high. The previous program record for made 3's in a game was nine and was accomplished by AJ Hall on Jan. 12, 2022 against Southwestern University in the Gold Dome. Broussard's 10 treys are the most by a SCAC player in a game this season.
Centenary tied its season high in points which was previously accomplished in a 94-89 win at McMurry University on Jan. 9 in Abilene, Texas. The Gents made a season-best 17 treys on Tuesday, the most in a game since hitting 22 in a 105-69 win over Southwestern on Jan. 12, 2022 - the same game in which Hall made nine treys.
The Gents shot a sizzling 54.1 % (33-61) from the floor which tied their season high previously accomplished in the win at McMurry. Their 17 treys out of 32 attempts for 53.1 % was the best percentage of the season, just better than the 52 % from the McMurry win. Centenary went 11-15 at the free-throw line and finished with 16 assists, eight steals, and two blocked shots.
The Yellow Jackets finished 25-69 from the floor for 36.2 %, just 23.3 % (7-30) from beyond the arc, and 7-14 at the FT line. Howard Payne had seven assists, nine steals, and a pair of blocked shots. The Yellow Jackets edged the Gents in the rebounding battle, 40-38, and 34-28 in points in the paint. HPU had 14 second-chance points to 10 for Centenary and the Gents finished with a 7-6 edge in fast break points. The Gents turned the ball over 10 times which led to 14 HPU points and the Yellow Jackets turned it over 13 times which led to 16 points for the Gents.
Howard Payne used 17 players in the game and 12 off the bench. The Yellow Jackets' five starters produced just 19 points and their dozen reserves contributed a whopping 45. Centenary's starting five accounted for 83 with its bench adding 11.

Freshman G Ryan Spears (Pearland, Texas) had two points and one steal in nine minutes and freshman G/F Ashton Savoie (Lake Charles, La.) had three points and two rebounds in 11 minutes. The rookie hit a trey for his first points of the season in only his fourth game.
HPU's Nathan Scott added eight points off the bench which led all Yellow Jackets. Carter May had seven and three players had six each – Carter Eddy, Trey Jackson, and Armonie Ramey.
Centenary opened the game on a 16-0 run and Howard Payne did not score until Avant Coleman made a layup at the 13:32 mark to make it 16-2. Broussard appropriately made a trey less than a minute into the game for a 3-0 lead and was a sign of things to come from the rookie the rest of the night. Broussard made his second trey to make it 10-0 at the 16:43 mark and seconds later hit again for a 13-0 lead which prompted Howard Payne to call a timeout. That stop in the action, however, did not stop the red-hot Broussard as he buried another from deep to make it 16-0 at the 15:36 mark. Another Broussard trey made it 24-6 at the 11:47 mark, Evans took his turn and connected for a 27-6 lead, and Broussard again hit from deep to blow the game open at 30-6 with 10:24 on the game clock.
Broussard's barrage continued moments later as he struck again to make it 38-8 with 8:15 still on the clock. Jordan McClendon made a pair of free throws to finally get the Yellow Jackets to double figures at 42-10 with 6:16 remaining in the half. To put into perspective how dominant the Gents had been in the half, at that moment in the half, Broussard already had 18 points himself. For good measure, Broussard hit his seventh trey in as many attempts to make it a 54-17 game with only 46 seconds remaining.
Howard Payne came out of the locker room and started the second half on a 13-0 run to close the deficit to 56-30 at the 16:46 mark. The Yellow Jackets made a trio of treys in the run but were still down by 26 points. Broussard picked up where he left off as he nailed his eighth 3-pointer to stop the HPU run and make it a 59-30 game on the next possession and Beverly followed with a trey of his own to make it 62-30 with 15:47 remaining. Broussard tried something different and attempted a two-point FG and made that as well, proving the Yellow Jackets had no answer for guarding him from any distance. His layup made it 67-32 with 12:50 on the clock.
Two minutes later Broussard made another 2-point basket that stretched the Gents' lead to 77-37 at the 10:16 mark and he hit another from beyond the arc at the 2:52 mark to make it 89-55. Then, with 2:08 remaining Broussard scored his final points of the night on a trey to make it 92-56. Broussard finished 7-7 from beyond the arc in the first half and started the second half with misses from 2 and 3-point range in the first few moments, but connected on 3-8 in the final two minutes to cap a sensational and historic night.
