The Gents (4-11, 2-4 SCAC) enter Friday's game against the Tornados (13-2, 6-0 SCAC) on a high note after an impressive 94-64 blowout victory over the Howard Payne University Yellow Jackets on Tuesday night in a non-conference contest at home. Concordia edged Schreiner University at home on Sunday, 98-95, and has won seven in a row and is 3-0 on the road this season. Centenary, 1-4 on its home court this season, is in the midst of a season-high five-game homestand.
SERIES HISTORY: Friday's game will be just the fourth all-time between the Gents and Tornados with Concordia winning all three previous games. The first meeting was in the 2011-12 season, the second in the 2017-18 season, and the third and most recent was last season on Feb. 7, 2025 in Shreveport – an 84-67 victory for the Tornados.
Centenary is currently tied for third place in the SCAC's Blue Division with The University of the Ozarks while Concordia is tied atop the Gold Division with the University of St. Thomas as the only two league teams with perfect conference records. The Tornados were picked to finish third this season in the preseason poll while the Gents were predicted to finish ninth.
The top six teams (top three from each of the two divisions) in the conference will qualify for the SCAC Men's Basketball Tournament, which will be held February 27 through March 1 and hosted by Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. The winner of that event will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Freshman G/F Kane Broussard (Iowa, La.) made a Centenary men's basketball program record ten 3-point baskets in Tuesday's win over Howard Payne as the red-hot Gents led 56-17 at halftime as they notched their first home win of the season and evened the season series after losing 103-82 in Brownwood, Texas on Dec. 12. Centenary's win on Tuesday was its largest of the season and largest since a 97-64 home win over the University of Dallas on Jan. 20, 2024, exactly two years ago.
Broussard finished with a season-high 34 points and was 10-15 from beyond the arc. He was 12-18 from the floor in 39 minutes and his 12 made field goals were also a season high. The previous program record for made 3's in a game was nine and was accomplished by AJ Hall on Jan. 12, 2022 against Southwestern University in the Gold Dome. Broussard's 10 treys are the most by a SCAC player in a game this season.
Centenary tied its season high in points which was previously accomplished in a 94-89 win at McMurry University on Jan. 9 in Abilene, Texas. The Gents made a season-best 17 treys on Tuesday, the most in a game since hitting 22 in a 105-69 win over Southwestern on Jan. 12, 2022 - the same game in which Hall made nine treys.
Beverly scored 24 and Braden 18 as Centenary shot 54.1 % (33-61) from the floor and 73.3 % (11-15) from the FT line and tallied 16 assists, eight steals, and two blocked shots. The Gents tied their season-best FG % that they previously achieved in a 94-89 win at McMurry University of Jan. 9 and just like in that game, on Tuesday the Maroon and White shot 50 % or better from the floor and beyond the arc in the same game.
Beverly has now scored in double figures 13 times this season and scored 20+ seven times. The sensational senior eclipsed 1,000 career points on Jan. 11 against Schreiner as he becomes just the 37th Gent to score 1,000 or more career points in the 102 years of Centenary men's basketball. He ranks fifth in the league in scoring, third in 3-point FG made (37 total/2.5 per game), and is the league leader in minutes played (34.6/game).
Addison has been one of the conference's top all-around players this season as he ranks fifth in FG % (54.2), seventh in rebounding (7.5) and is 15th in both blocked shots (0.6) and steals (1.5). He has reached double digits four times, averages 9.0 PPG, has four double-digit rebounding performances and two double-doubles.
The rookie Braden has had a terrific first year as he has started all 15 games and is seventh in the conference in minutes played (31.9), 10th in assist to turnover ratio, 12th in assists, and 25th in scoring. He is averaging 11.9 PPG, 3.5 assists/game, 2.2 rebounds/game, and shooting 48.2 % from the floor and 39.1 % from beyond the arc. Braden has 10 double-digit scoring performances and has done so in three-straight games and in five of his last six.
Broussard, like Braden, has been one of the league's top rookies as he is averaging 11.1 PPG, 5.6 rebounds/game, and shoots 81.3 % from the FT line. He shoots 43.5 % from the floor and 41.1 % from beyond the arc. Broussard is in the top 30 in the conference in scoring, top 20 in rebounding, and in top 15 in 3-point FG made. He has six double-digit scoring performances and done so in five of his last seven games.
Centenary ranks fifth in the conference in scoring defense (77.6 PPG), fourth in FG % defense (44.0), and third in 3-point FG % defense (32.5). Seven of the Gents' 11 losses this season have been by six points or less with a pair of one-point losses.
The Gents, who rank sixth in the league in 3-point FG made (8.8/game and 132 total), are also third in the league in turnover margin and sixth in assist to turnover margin. Centenary is allowing just 65.7 PPG over its last four games and 71.8 PPG in conference play.
A Glance at the Tornados:
The powerful Tornados are third in the country in scoring offense, averaging a staggering 106.4 PPG and have scored 100 or more 10 times this season. Their season high was 129 in a 75-point win over Hendrix College (129-54) on Jan. 9 at home.
