Gents Set For Two League Home Games This Weekend

The Gents will wrap up the weekend on Saturday versus the University of Dallas (4 PM).
The Gents (4-12, 2-5 SCAC) enter Friday's game against the 'Roos (5-12, 2-5 SCAC) having gone 1-1 last week at home with a win over Howard Payne University (94-64) on Tuesday and a loss to Concordia University (82-77) on Friday. The 'Roos defeated the University of the Ozarks at home last Thursday by a score of 79-71.
Friday marks the second meeting between the teams this season after the Gents defeated the 'Roos 68-63 on Jan. 16 in Sherman, Texas. Centenary is 1-5 at home this season while Austin College is 1-6 on the road.
Centenary is currently tied for third place in the SCAC's Blue Division with Ozarks while Austin College is just a half-game behind the two in fifth place. The 'Roos were picked to finish 10th this season in the preseason poll while the Gents were predicted to finish ninth.
The top six teams (top three from each of the two divisions) in the conference will qualify for the SCAC Men's Basketball Tournament, which will be held February 27 through March 1 and hosted by Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. The winner of that event will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Gents' Season Individual Statistical Leaders:
Scoring: Senior G Quentin Beverly (Katy, Texas) – 18.6 PPG
Rebounding: Sophomore G Nicholas Addison (Cedar Hill, Texas) – 7.6 RPG
Assists: Freshman G Jaden Braden (Natchitoches, La.) – 3.6/game
Blocks: Freshman C Bryce Evans (Austin, Texas) – 1.3/game
Steals: Addison – 1.4/game
The Gents average 71.9 PPG, shoot 42.6 % from the floor, 33.7 % from 3-point range, and 71.2 % from the free-throw line while averaging 33.0 rebounds/game, 11.1 assists/game, 6.6 steals/game, and 1.8 blocks/game.
Junior F Dontarius Coleman (Gibsland, La.) led the Gents with a season-high 25 points last Friday against Concordia as he finished 10-13 from the floor, 3-6 from beyond the arc, and 2-2 at the FT line in 32 minutes. Coleman added six rebounds, two blocked shots, and a steal. Beverly scored 22 and played all 40 minutes as he finished 7-15 from the floor and 6-6 from the FT line with a pair of treys. Beverly reached double figures for the 14th time this season and notched his eighth game of 20+ points. He added four assists, three steals, and two rebounds. He is now ranked fifth in the conference in scoring, third in 3-PT FG made, and leads the SCAC in minutes played (34.6/game).
Braden scored 11 in his 38 minutes as he finished 4-11 from the floor and 2-2 at the FT line with one trey. The rookie reached double figures for the 11th time this season and added five assists, a rebound, and a steal. Addison scored seven and grabbed nine rebounds in 31 minutes with three assists and a blocked shot as he finished 2-3 from the floor and 3-4 at the FT line.
Freshman G/F Kane Broussard (Iowa, La.) scored five points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds in his 38 minutes. Junior F Me'Khai Taylor (New Orleans, La.) scored seven points and had three rebounds and a pair of assists in his 14 minutes off the bench.
Addison has been one of the conference's top all-around players this season as he ranks fifth in FG % (54.5), seventh in rebounding (7.6) and is 15th in both blocked shots (0.6) and steals (1.4). He has reached double digits four times, averages 8.9 PPG, has four double-digit rebounding performances and two double-doubles.
The rookie Braden has had a terrific first year as he has started all 16 games and is seventh in the conference in minutes played (31.7), 10th in assist to turnover ratio, 12th in assists, and 25th in scoring. He is averaging 11.9 PPG, 3.6 assists/game, 2.1 rebounds/game, and shooting 47.4 % from the floor and 38.5 % from beyond the arc. Braden has 11 double-digit scoring performances and has done so in four-straight games and in six of his last seven.
Broussard, like Braden, has been one of the league's top rookies as he is averaging 10.7 PPG, 6.0 rebounds/game, and shoots 81.3 % from the FT line. He shoots 41.5 % from the floor and 38.5 % from beyond the arc. Broussard is in the top 15 in 3-point FG made and has six double-digit scoring performances and done so in six of his last eight games.
Centenary ranks fifth in the conference in scoring defense (77.6 PPG), fourth in FG % defense (44.0), and third in 3-point FG % defense (32.5). Eight of the Gents' 12 losses this season have been by six points or less with a pair of one-point losses.
The Gents, who rank sixth in the league in 3-point FG made (8.7/game and 139 total), are also third in the league in turnover margin and sixth in assist to turnover margin.
A Glance at the 'Roos:
Austin College is averaging 71.2 PPG, shoots 42.8 % from the floor, 29.0 % from beyond the arc, and 70.5 % from the FT line.
Three 'Roos average double figures, led by junior G Jamien June (14.6 PPG). Senior G Kidus Getenet averages 14.2 PPG and freshman G Tasshir Pina-Warren averages 11.0 PPG.
